Japan’s Offshore Wind Zone Designations
Under the Act on Promoting the Utilization of Sea Areas for Renewable Energy, Japan classifies offshore wind development sites into three categories:
Promotion Zones – Officially designated for auction and development
Promising Zones – Under evaluation for future designation
Preparation Zones – Selected for preliminary site surveys by JOGMEC
Note:
These designations represent Japan’s evolving offshore wind pipeline and reflect the government’s roadmap toward large-scale deployment of both fixed-bottom and floating projects.
